From September 10th to 23rd, 2026, the Seminar on Fighting Hunger and Food Security Management for Developing Countries, organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully held in Beijing and Sichuan Province. The 14-day seminar brought together 25 government officials from 9 countries, including South Africa, Barbados, Kenya, Grenada, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Antigua and Barbuda, Sierra Leone, Nigeria. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, attended both the opening and closing ceremonies and delivered remarks. On behalf of all participants, Mr. Netshikhudini Lufuno Calton, National Youth Chairperson, African Farmers Association of South Africa and Ms. Vangahun Juliana Mariama, Rice Specialist at the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, Office of the President of Sierra Leone delivered speeches at the opening and closing ceremonies respectively.

With a focus on ‘Fighting Hunger and Food Security Management’, the seminar combined thematic lectures and cultural activities in Beijing with field visits to Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, where the participants inspected projects on high-standard farmland,agricultural technology promotion and integration of industry and education, the construction of beautiful and harmonious villages and so on, acquiring a concrete and profound understanding of the implementation and effectiveness of China's food security and poverty reduction policies at the grassroots level.

Ms.Vangahun Juliana Mariama stated that China has achieved what other countries would take longer to achieve in a generation, and we are honored to carefully explore this process. We will leave with better questions, a wider and more reliable network, and a sense of responsibility to transform what we have learned here into policies, systems and ultimately into the food we need on the dining table.
