The Seminar on Poverty Reduction of SMEs and NGOs for Officials in Developing Countries, organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully held in Beijing, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province from June 23 to July 6, 2026. Spanning 14 days, the seminar drew 26 officials from seven countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America, namely Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, Nigeria, Uganda, Brazil and Honduras. Dr. Liu Junwen, Director General of IPRCC participated in the field visits of this seminar in Guangdong province. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, attended and delivered speeches at both the opening and closing ceremonies. Ms. Syifasari Diennabila, Statistician at Indonesia’s Statistics Agency, and Mr. Tahir Gambo Abubakar, Founder of the Northern Peace Foundation of Nigeria, spoke on behalf of all participants at the opening and closing ceremonies respectively.

Centered on the theme of "Poverty Reduction of SMEs and NGOs", the seminar featured special lectures and cultural experience activities in Beijing, followed by field vists to Guilin and Hezhou in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as Zhaoqing and Foshan in Guangdong Province.

Participants unanimously remarked that they had been greatly inspired and gained fruitful insights through this seminar in China. They pledged to apply the knowledge and practical experience acquired to their daily work, boost community development, and contribute to the development of their respective countries. One Indonesian participant wrote in the article China in My Eyes: “As we traveled across China, we quickly realized that the country’s development is reflected not only in skyscrapers and high-speed railways, but also in local residents warmly welcoming us into their newly renovated homes, and elderly villagers recounting with pride the tremendous transformations their lives have undergone. Policy support from the government, the resilience of local communities, and a shared vision for a brighter future have together rewritten the story of rural development in China. This is the true beauty of China: it always puts people at the center, ensuring everyone to live a dignified life and access opportunities for growth.” These authentic, vivid observations have offered participants fresh perspectives on poverty reduction and rural development back home. Meanwhile, China’s development experience has struck a deeper chord amid mutual learning and exchanges.
