Seminar on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction for IndonesiaHeld in China

From May 9 to 22, 2026, the "Seminar on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction for Indonesia" hosted by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China was successfully held in Beijing and Yunnan. The 14-day seminar brought together 36 officials from Indonesia's Ministry of Population and Transmigration. Dr. Liu Junwen, Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, while Deputy Director Jie Ping attended the closing ceremony and addressed the participants. Mr. Muhajirin La Ode, Director of Indonesia's Ministry of Population and Transmigration, spoke on behalf of the participants at both the opening and closing ceremonies.

The seminar, themed as "Rural Development and Poverty Reduction" brought participants to Beijing for specialized lectures, cultural experiences, and exchange discussions. We also conducted field visits to Kaiyuan City and Mile City in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, where the participants observed projects related to rural development and poverty reduction, including industrial development, employment promotion, education advancement, healthcare services, ecological conservation, integrated agriculture-culture-tourism development, E-commerce, rural construction, and governance. Through these activities, the participants gained firsthand insight into the vibrant grassroots practices of local governments in advancing rural development and revitalization.

Mr. Muhajirin La Ode, the Director of Indonesia’s Ministry of Population and Transmigration, expressed his deep feelings at the closing ceremony: The concept of Targeted Poverty Alleviation proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping left a particularly profound impression on me. Poverty alleviation must involve intelligence; poverty reduction must start with eradicating ignorance. This is precisely one of the core values we plan to bring back to Indonesia. I sincerely hope that we can deepen and expand the poverty reduction knowledge we have learned here, absorb the key essence of it, and apply it to our motherland - Indonesia, especially in the construction of our 'immigrant resettlement areas'."
