China launches new global partnership to deepen international cooperation on poverty reduction

China has launched a new international platform aimed at strengthening global cooperation on poverty reduction and development. The Global Partnership for Poverty Alleviation and Development was officially launched during the 2026 High-Level Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development in Beijing on Wednesday. The partnership was jointly initiated by China, fifty-three other countries and nine international organizations. It aims to promote experience-sharing on poverty governance, encourage practical cooperation, and improve global coordination on poverty reduction and development. Participants at the forum say many developing countries are increasingly looking for practical solutions and stronger international partnerships to tackle poverty and promote sustainable development.

ROBERT WALKER, Professor, Beijing Normal University & Emeritus fellow, University of Oxford "Today, you have the opportunity of countries coming together to say, in a way we failed, but we can work together through partnership to address issues that collectively, as a globe, we said we would do 8 years ago, whatever it did 10 years ago, but have not done. So, it's important this opportunity, this celebration of working together. We can really achieve things."

SALIM ISMAEL VALÁ, Minister of Planning and Development of Mozambique "Within this platform, we will have access to more knowledge, partnerships, and economic and social cooperation, allowing us to learn from the experience of China and other countries, so that we can accelerate the pace and make the commitment. The problem of poverty is a global problem for humanity, so the strategies for reducing it must also be global strategies, concerted strategies, that allow, first, to end hunger, drastically reducing the level of poverty by 2030."
