Seminar on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction for Officials from Developing Countries Held in Beijing

From October 14th to 27th, 2025, the “Seminar on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction for Officials from Developing Countries, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully held in Beijing. The 14-day seminar was attended by 32 officials from 10 countries, including Timor-Leste, South Africa, the Philippines, Tanzania, Cape Verde, Egypt, Gambia, Uganda, Guyana and Indonesia. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, attended the opening and closing ceremonies and delivered speeches. Mr. Hatem Mohamed Mansour, Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee of the National Alliance for Popular Action Development in Egypt, and Ms. Yadicon Njie Eribo, President of Gambia NGO Federation, spoke on behalf of the participants at the opening and closing ceremonies respectively.

The theme of this seminar is “Rural Development and Poverty Reduction”. In addition to attending thematic lectures and cultural exchange activities in Beijing, they conducted field visits to Pu’er City in Yunnan Province to visit projects related to poverty alleviation through industry, employment, healthcare, relocation, and the integration of agriculture and tourism. 

Ms. Marie Ann Constantino, the Regional Technical Director of Department of Agricultural of the Philippines said: “I came to realize employment, health and infrastructures could complement, supplement and support towards poverty alleviation regardless on the size of the community. Listening and seeing China has opened my mind how strategies were built in times of struggles and challenges in life. This did not only impress me but inspired me as well. ”
