Malaysian Delegation Visits China to Learn About Poverty Reduction and Rural Revitalization

A Malaysian delegation led by YBhg. Dato’ Noor-Ihsan bin Hj. Che Mat, Director of the Negeri Sembilan State Development Office under the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia, visited China from October 10 to 16 to exchange views and learn from China’s experience in poverty reduction.

In the afternoon of October 10, the delegation visited the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and held discussions with Director General Liu Junwen and Deputy Director General Li Xin. Both sides shared their policies, measures, and experiences in poverty alleviation and development.

From October 11 to 12, the delegation conducted field visits in Zhecheng County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province, where they visited a beef cattle breeding base, a poverty-alleviation workshop, the Zhecheng County Elderly Care Center, and the National Poverty Alleviation and Development Exchange Base. The delegation gained a first-hand understanding of how local authorities have consolidated and expanded the achievements of poverty alleviation by promoting characteristic industries and employment-oriented assistance.

From October 13 to 14, the delegation visited Yucun Village in Anji County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, to learn about how the “Green Rural Revival” Program has advanced rural environmental improvement and how the integration of culture and tourism has contributed to the building of beautiful villages.

Members of the delegation noted that the visit had deepened their understanding of China’s remarkable achievements in economic and social development, particularly its successful practices in turning poverty eradication into opportunities for growth. They expressed their intention to bring back the policy concepts and practical experiences gained in China, adapt them to Malaysia’s national context, and promote further progress in poverty reduction and community development. Both sides also conducted in-depth discussions on strengthening future exchanges and cooperation in the fields of poverty reduction and development.

Officials from the Research Division and Foreign Affairs Division of the IPRCC, as well as Professor Zhang Qi, Dean of the China Institute for Poverty Reduction and Director of the China Rural Revitalization and Development Research Center at Beijing Normal University, together with relevant staff, accompanied the delegation during the visits.
