Seminar on Public Service and Poverty Reduction for Developing Countries Held in China

From September 4 to 17, 2025, the " Seminar on Public Service and Poverty Reduction for Developing Countries" hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully held in Beijing and Sichuan. The 14-day program brought together 33 officials from 10 countries, including Azerbaijan, Burundi, Timor-Leste, The Gambia, Grenada, South Africa, Uganda, Jordan, Iraq, and Ethiopia. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of the IPRCC, attended both the opening and closing ceremonies and delivered her remarks. Mr. Evrard Ndayikeje, Director of the National Cooperative Promotion and Regulation Agency at the Ministry of Interior of Burundi, and Ms. Amie Bojang Sissoho, Director of Press and Public Relations of the Office of the President of the Gambia, spoke on behalf of the participants at the opening and closing ceremonies, respectively.

Concentrating on the theme of "Public Services and Poverty Reduction," the program included not only specialized lectures and cultural activities in Beijing, but also field visits in Nanchong and Guang’an, Sichuan Province. The participants observed and learned about the mechanisms and outcomes of targeted poverty alleviation and the provision of comprehensive public services at the local level.

Ms. Amie Bojang Sissoho, one of the participant representatives, expressed: "We witnessed firsthand the remarkable momentum of the infrastructure development in the rural area of China, like well-connected road and bridge networks, modern healthcare facilities, technology-enabled smart agriculture, reliable power supply systems, fully equipped vocational training centers, newly built schools with bright lights, and distinctive tourism initiatives. What is the most inspiring is how villages are achieving deep integration with industries: farmers are not only managing their own fields but also taking part in the development of local industrial parks. By adding value to agricultural products through processing, packaging, and branding, broader market opportunities have been created for rural communities, tangibly improving their living standards and incomes. China’s unique approach to rural revitalization, adoption of new technologies, and pursuit of harmony between humans and the environment is truly inspiring."

With the successful conclusion of the program, participants from around the world returned home enriched with valuable insights and practical knowledge. Through the well-coordinated arrangements of the IPRCC, the officials engaged not only in structured theoretical learning but also in immersive field visits, gaining a comprehensive understanding of China’s innovative strategies and outstanding achievements in poverty reduction. Many participants expressed sincerely that this visit had not only expanded their perspective on poverty reduction but also motivated them to apply these lessons back in their home countries and to adapt what they had learned in China to their local contexts, allowing these “Chinese solutions” to take root and bear fruit, thereby bringing new vitality to poverty alleviation efforts in their own nations.
