Seminar on Improving Targeted Poverty Alleviation Mechanisms and Reducing Income Inequality for Officials from Developing Countries Held in China

From August 5 to 18, 2025, the Seminar on Improving Targeted Poverty Alleviation Mechanisms and Reducing Income Inequality for Officials from Developing Countries, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully held in Beijing and Gansu Province. Spanning 14 days, the seminar brought together 30 officials from six countries: Cambodia, Fiji, Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, and The Gambia. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, attended both the opening and closing ceremonies and delivered keynote addresses. Mr. Alkharabshah Abd Alhameed Mohammad A., Manager of Projects and Technical Support Department at Jordan Cooperative Corporation, and Mr. Shehzad Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Social Protection Authority in Pakistan, represented the participants in speeches during the opening and closing sessions, respectively.

Focused on “improving poverty alleviation mechanisms and reducing income inequality,” the seminar combined specialized lectures and cultural experiences in Beijing with field visits to Lanzhou and Wuwei in Gansu Province. These visits allowed participants to study China’s localized strategies for implementing targeted poverty alleviation and narrowing income gaps, including policy frameworks, community-driven initiatives, and technological innovations.

Under IPRCC’s meticulous coordination, the seminar integrated theoretical learning with immersive field investigations, showcasing China’s innovative approaches and tangible outcomes in poverty reduction. Multiple participants noted that the experience not only provided practical tools but also ignited their enthusiasm to apply these lessons locally.

In his remarks, Mr. Shehzad Ali emphasized, “While I was already inspired by China’s achievements in literature, witnessing firsthand the dedication, innovation, and resolve driving these efforts has fundamentally transformed my understanding. China’s remarkable development vividly demonstrates humanity’s resilience and wisdom―no mountain is too high to climb, no challenge too difficult to overcome. The Chinese government has always been committed to poverty eradication. The whole country has actively promoted scientific and technological innovation, and all sectors of society have adhered to professional ethics, carried forward fine virtues and inherited profound culture. We firmly believe that all what we have learned in China will effectively help us improve the social and economic conditions of the people in our own countries.”
