From June 19 to July 2, 2025, the Seminar on Rural Revitalization and National Modernization for Developing Countries, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully held in Beijing and Hunan Province. The seminar brought together 30 officials from 8 countries: Cambodia, Egypt, Fiji, Mauritius, Uganda, the Solomon Islands, South Africa, and Zambia. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, attended and delivered speeches at both the opening and closing ceremonies. Mr. Aing Povmanich, Deputy Director of Rural Economic Development Department, Ministry of Rural Development of Cambodia, and Mr. Cama Mitieli, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Fiji’s Ministry of Rural, Maritime Development, and Disaster Management, spoke on behalf of the participants during the opening and closing ceremonies.
Under the theme of “Rural Revitalization and National Modernization,” the seminar featured thematic lectures and cultural exchange in Beijing, followed by field visits to Changsha and Xiangtan city in Hunan Province. Participants observed projects related to industrial poverty alleviation, educational support, relocation initiatives for impoverished populations, rural construction, and governance.
Mr. Cama Mitieli, one of the participant representatives, remarked, “The seminar has given us firsthand insight into the practical wisdom behind China’s rural revitalization strategy. From urban-rural integration to digital agriculture, China’s poverty reduction experiences offer systematic solutions. The innovative model of combining ‘industrial revitalization’ with ‘talent cultivation’ is particularly inspiring. Upon returning home, we will adapt these lessons into localized actions to advance our national rural development plans. This is not just a knowledge exchange but a vivid embodiment of the spirit of South-South cooperation.”
As the seminar concluded, participants departed with enriched perspectives. Through IPRCC’s well-structured arrangements, they gained a comprehensive understanding of China’s innovative approaches and tangible achievements in poverty reduction. Many participants expressed deep appreciation for the invaluable insights gained and their renewed motivation to implement tailored solutions in their home countries. They pledged to adapt the “China Model” to local contexts, nurturing the seeds of poverty reduction to flourish across their countries.
