From June 12th to 25th, 2025, the “Seminar on Formulation and Implementation on Poverty Reduction Planning Policies for Developing Countries”, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, was successfully held in Beijing. The 14-day seminar was attended by 31 officials from 6 countries including Nepal, Uganda, Mauritius, Solomon Islands, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. Ms. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, attended the opening and closing ceremonies and delivered speeches. Ms. Kakyo Doreen, Business Development Officer of Uganda Development Bank and Mr. Bahtiyor Sidikov, Deputy Director General of the Department of Human Resources Development and Management of Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan spoke on behalf of the participants at the opening and closing ceremonies respectively.
Mr. Liu Junwen, Director General of IPRCC, attended the country-specific presentations on June 24.
The theme of this seminar is “Formulation and Implementation on Poverty Reduction Planning Policies”. In addition to attending thematic lectures and cultural exchange activities in Beijing, participants also went to Leishan County and Rongjiang County of Guizhou Province for field visits, where they investigated projects related to industrial poverty alleviation, educational poverty reduction, and relocation for poverty alleviation, and rural construction and governance.
Mr. Bahtiyor Sidikov, the representative of the participants, said, “We will combine the Chinese experience we have learned with the actual situation in Uzbekistan to promote the industrial development of small and medium-sized cities, especially in poor areas, and formulate a special ‘roadmap’ for poverty reduction of poor families.”
As the seminar came to a successful conclusion, the participants set off for homeland with a rich harvest. Under the careful organization of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, they not only gained a deep understanding of China’s valuable experience in poverty reduction, but also witnessed the great achievements of China’s poverty reduction practice during the field visits. The participants said that they would turn what they had gained in China into motivation and let the seeds of poverty reduction take root in their own countries and add luster to the global poverty reduction cause.
