From July 11 to July 24, 2024, the Seminar on Poverty Reduction through Vocational Training and Labor Transfer for Developing Countries, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, was successfully closed in Beijing. With the total of 33 officials from the Department of Education, Labor, Labor and Social Welfare of eight countries including Myanmar, Laos, Nigeria, Jordan, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe, attended the seminar. On July 24, the closing ceremony was held in Beijing. Mrs. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China attended the closing ceremony and delivered a speech. Mr. Azhy·Abdulqadir·Ahmed, Advisor of Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, delivered speech on behalf of the participants.
During the stay in China, the participants learned about the policies and measures, as well as the implementation models of China’s poverty alleviation through vocational training and labor transfer in Beijing and Hunan. They also shared the poverty alleviation policies and practices of their respective countries. They conducted field trips to the human resources services, vocational education and the relocation projects in Huaihua City, Hunan Province, and the characteristic ethnic culture empowerment for rural revitalization, and industrial assistance projects in Xiangxi Prefecture. They gained an in-depth understanding of the practices of targeted poverty alleviation concepts in Hunan and the approaches and achievements of the Hunan in promoting poverty alleviation vocational training and labor transfer.
The Deputy Director of the Lao Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Chanthavong Khonesavanh, stated that the correct and decisive decisions of Chinese leaders, along with the united cooperation of provinces, cities, counties, and villages, had created a sustainable economic growth environment in China. China's high-quality and modern vocational education system encourages entrepreneurship, promotes the transfer of labor employment, and provides a large number of poverty alleviation public welfare employment positions for impoverished workers.
The Acting Director General of the Ministry of Public Service, Labor, and Social Welfare of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Zimhunga Tawanda, said that eliminating poverty was not only achieved through economic empowerment and skills training, but more importantly, through the concept of "people's public servant leadership," where the government serves the people and listens to their needs. They will bring this concept back to their own country.
The Director of the Department of Budget and Economic Planning of Edo State, Nigeria, Mr. Iyamu Imudia Junior, said that China's employment poverty alleviation strategy has provided valuable experience for them. They will adapt resources according to local conditions, conduct regular monitoring and evaluation, implement employment policies that promote high-quality development, and establish a comprehensive social security system. They will submit a policy recommendation report to their own government based on what they have learned in this seminar to promote poverty alleviation work.
The participants expressed their deep gratitude for the careful organization of this seminar and highly recognized and appreciated China's concept of targeted poverty alleviation and its great achievements in poverty eradication.
