Dr. Liu Junwen: China has realized the eradication of extreme poverty - the first target of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development - 10 years ahead of schedule

Produced by the Centre for Business Programmes of the China Media Group, the large-scale integrated media campaign “Looking for 100 Featured Counties in China” was recently concluded in Beijing. With the theme of “Stories of a Small Town - Deciphering the ‘Resilience Code’ of High-quality Economic Development of the County”, the last special programme of the campaign excavated new stories of hard work and diligence and shared new experiences of pioneers. It also discovered new internal driving force for economic growth and looked into the new future of economic development at the county level.

In the programme, Dr. Liu Junwen, Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, stated that China has realized the eradication of extreme poverty - the first target of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development - 10 years ahead of schedule. Since the implementation of the Rural Revitalization Strategy, China’s grain production has exceeded 1.3 trillion jin (650 million tons) for nine consecutive years, and more rural residents have landed jobs in places close to their homes. Green transition has been accelerated in agricultural production, and the stability of rural ecosystems continues to enhance.
