On March 3rd, 2023, the members’ working meeting of the Africa-China Alliance for Poverty Alleviation (ACAPA) was successfully held in an online plus offline format. Xia Gengsheng, Vice Administrator of the National Rural Revitalization Administration of China, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Yu Yong, Deputy Director General of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of 27 ACAPA members attended the meeting and made speeches.
Xia Gengsheng pointed out in his speech that the establishment of Africa-China Alliance for Poverty Alleviation is an important innovation in building a new type of China-Africa partnership for poverty reduction and development and can promote China-Africa cooperation in this field. It has set up a platform for all institutions committed to China-Africa poverty reduction and development cooperation to build consensus, stimulate vitality, promote cooperation, discuss and share ideas. The Alliance should give full play to its roles as “coordinator”, “information port”, “think tank”, “project bank” and “publicist” to contribute to building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
At the meeting, representatives of ACAPA members shared their insights and suggestions on the work of the Alliance in 2023 and its future development. They all expressed that they will actively leverage their own advantages and the role of the Alliance to jointly promote China-Africa cooperation in poverty reduction and development. During the meeting, the Secretariat of Africa-China Alliance for Poverty Alleviation was inaugurated by Vice Administrator Xia Gengsheng and Deputy Director General Yu Yong.
The Africa-China Alliance for Poverty Alleviation was established in Beijing on November 10th, 2022. It is an important outcome reached at the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. It aims to contribute to enhancing experience sharing between China and Africa, promoting high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation, and building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
