Seminar on Development and Poverty Reduction for Government Officials from Belt and Road Countries Ends in Beijing

The Seminar on Development and Poverty Reduction for Government Officials from Belt and Road Countries, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and hosted by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), was successfully completed on July 22, 2022 in Beijing. Dr. Zhang Huidong, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, attended and addressed the concluding ceremony. Mr. Emmanuel Ajayi, Senior Agric Officer from Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Nigeria and Mr. Sophal KY, Director of Ministry of Rural Development, Cambodia delivered speeches on behalf of all participants. Through thematic lectures, video-based field visits and country presentations, this seminar shared China's experience derived from development of society and economy and elimination of absolute poverty, and strengthened the exchange and communication between China and the Belt and Road countries in the fields of rural development and poverty reduction .

On the closing ceremony of the seminar, Dr. Justin Amase, Research Analyst from Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), Nigeria stated that Nigeria had adapted Chinese Poverty Eradication Model and formulated own poverty eradication blueprint–“National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy”(2021–2029), the core objective is lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in this period. The participants said the seminar displayed China’s great achievements in development and poverty alleviation, and hoped the cooperation between China and the Belt and Road countries could be expanded.
