Wrap-up Meeting of East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project was held

On the morning of December 21, 2021, the Wrap-up Meeting of East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project, hosted by the General Affairs Department of the National Rural Revitalization Administration and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, was held online. Mr. Hong Tianyun, Vice Administrator  of the National Rural Revitalization Administration, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Mr. Wu Zengyi, Deputy Director-General of the General Affairs Department of the National Rural Revitalization Administration, presided over the meeting.

Chinese representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, National International Development Cooperation Agency, National Rural Revitalization Administration, Guangxi Rural Revitalization Administration and other relevant domestic departments, the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos and, the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the International Poverty Reduction Center in China and Chinese project implementation units (Project Center of Sichuan Rural Revitalization Administration, Guangxi Foreign Capital Poverty Reduction Project Management Center, and Sichuan Rural Revitalization Administration Project Center, Yunnan International Poverty Reduction and Development Center), representatives from project management and consulting agencies attended the meeting. Representatives of Ministry of Rural Development of Cambodia, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos, Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development of Myanmar and other foreign representatives joined the meeting. 

In his speech, Vice Administrator Mr. Hong Tianyun pointed out that the East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project is an important measure to implement the "Cooperation Initiative on East Asia Poverty Reduction" proposed by Premier Li Keqiang. Relevant parties participate in the project of from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, with a high sense of mission and responsibility, upheld the principle of mutual trust and equal cooperation, overcame difficulties, worked together and cooperated with each other, and successfully completed the project tasks. The project greatly improved the project villages’ production and living conditions, effectively enhanced the project villages’ self-development ability, effectively promoted the international sharing of poverty reduction experience, built up officials’ capacity and the ability of the international poverty reduction cooperation team, explored and innovated the foreign aid project implementation mechanism, and enhanced the friendship between Chinese and the Lao, Cambodian and Burmese. It has achieved good results. In the future, the National Rural Revitalization Administration will actively implement the Chinese leaders’ vision of poverty reduction cooperation and initiative proposed by Chinese leaders, further expand and deepen international poverty reduction exchanges and cooperation, actively promote the "Cooperation Initiative on East Asia Poverty Reduction" Phase II project, so as to make new contributions to poverty reduction experience sharing, promote the international poverty reduction process, realize the goal of poverty reduction set in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and build a poverty-free  community with a shared future for mankind featuring common development.

H.E. In Chantha, the State Secretary of Cambodia’s Ministry of Rural Development, H.E. Thongphath Vongmany, Vice Minister of Laos’ Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and H.E. Khant Zaw, Permanent Secretary of Myanmar’s Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development delivered speeches respectively and spoke highly of the East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project, thanked the Chinese government and people for their support, and hoped to further strengthen the cooperation in poverty reduction with China.

Mr. Chen Junjie, Counsellor of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zheng YingYuandong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Region I of China International Development Cooperation Agency, Mr. Zeng Huacheng, Deputy Director- General of the Agency for International Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce of China also delivered speeches respectively, fully affirmed the results and experience, appreciated relevant domestic and foreign parties. China will continue to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN countries, help neighboring countries reduce poverty, and promote the construction of China-ASEAN  community with a shared future.

Representatives from Guangxi Rural Revitalization Administration, Project Center of Sichuan Rural Revitalization Administration, Yunnan International Poverty Reduction and Development Center and Myanmar’s Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development introduced the results and experience of the projects in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

Dr. Tan Weiping, Deputy Director-General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China made a summary speech. He expressed heartfelt thanks to relevant Chinese and foreign parties, paid high respect to project experts, and said that the International Poverty Reduction Center in China will continue to act as the international poverty reduction exchange platform, strengthen communication and coordination with partner countries for early approval of the Phase II Project, and make due contributions to poverty reduction experience sharing, realization the target of poverty reduction of the UN SDGs, and building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
