Ministerial Level Seminar on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development for Belt and Road Countries Held in Beijing

Ministerial Level Seminar on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development for Belt and Road was held from Oct 13 to Oct 18, 2021 in Beijing. The seminar was sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC). Mr. Zhang Huidong, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, attended and addressed the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony. Ms PITIVILA LIYANAGE NIMALA, the Assistant Director of Agriculture of the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka delivered a speech in the opening ceremony on behalf of the participants. Mr. Idris Dangalan, Assistant Chief Inspector of National Youth Service Corps delivered a speech in the closing ceremony. 

Mr. Zhang Huidong pointed out in his remarks that since 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic, it is full of challenges and uncertainties to achieve the poverty reduction goal of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on schedule for all countries in the world. China is ready to work with developing countries along the Belt and Road to promote international cooperation in poverty reduction and development and strive to create new models of international cooperation in poverty reduction and development under the Belt and Road initiative.

The 6-day seminar is designed to share China's experience and results in promoting sustainable socioeconomic development encompassing topics including China's strategies and practices for sustainable development, China's anti-poverty policies and practices, China's policies and practices in ecological building and national sustainable development, China's policies for social development and national sustainable development, China's policies for science and technology development and national sustainable development, China's economic growth model and sustainable development, and China's policies and practices for promoting international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. 45 participants from Kenya, Nigeria, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Laos and Ghana take part in the Seminar.
