Side Event themed Poverty Reduction and Rural Development Successfully Held

On 28 April, 2021, a side event titled “Linking the achievement of SDG1 and SDG2 to build back better: Poverty alleviation through sustainable agricultural development and rural revitalization”, was held virtually alongside the 77th Commission Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The Side Event was co-organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to ESCAP. Mr. Hong Tianyun, Vice Administrator of National Rural Revitalization Administration of China, Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, United Nations Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, and Mr. Ke Yousheng, Permanent Representative of China to ESCAP addressed the opening ceremony.

This side event was attended by Mr. Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador of Pakistan to Thailand and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to ESCAP, Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China and other guest speakers from government, international organizations, civil society and the private sector. Participants shared insights on topics including poverty reduction, rural development, regional cooperation as well as sustainable agricultural development. Dr. Tan Weiping, Deputy Director-General of IPRCC introduced China’s poverty reduction cooperation in the Asian-Pacific region.

Ms. Li Xin, Deputy Director-General of IPRCC and Ms. Li Yutong, Head of ESCAP Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) moderated the Side Event.
