Joint Release by IPRCC, WTA and WB: WTA Best Practice in Poverty Alleviation through Tourism 2020

Hangzhou, 13 November 2020 - The third “World Tourism Alliance (WTA) Xianghu Dialogue” was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) was invited to participate in the event, and jointly released the report WTA Best Practice in Poverty Alleviation through Tourism 2020 with the World Tourism Alliance (WTA) and the World Bank (WB). During the event, the case of poverty reduction through tourism in Azheke, Yunnan Province was presented.

Since 2018, IPRCC in partnership with the WTA and the World Bank, have jointly released 3 successive series of the case study report WTA Best Practice of Poverty Alleviation through Tourism, introducing a total of 100 poverty alleviation cases through tourism development, 90% of which are from China. The series aims to share global best practice of poverty reduction through tourism, with an emphasis on the operability and replicability of the cases, and to provide references and strategies for the development of tourism in poverty-stricken areas.

This year’s Xianghu Dialogue was hosted by the WTA, with the theme of "Shaping the Future: Rebuilding Confidence & Embracing the New Normal in Travel & Tourism". The event lasted for two days, with the participation of offline and online participants from 24 countries and regions in total.
