11 August, 2011---On the morning of August 11, Mozambique's First Lady Mrs. Maria da Luz Dai Guebuza visited International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC). LGOP Deputy Director-General Zheng Wenkai met and held formal talks with the delegation headed by Mrs. Guebuza. Mr. Li Chunguang, Director of Department of International Cooperation and Social Poverty Alleviation of LGOP, IPRCC Deputy Director-General He Xiaojun and the wife of Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Chang Dongzhen attended the meeting.

Deputy Director-General Zheng Wenkai expressed his gratitude to welcome Mrs. Guebuza’s visit, and introduced the organizational structure and management system of the Chinese government’s departments in charge of poverty alleviation. Regarding the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the field of poverty reduction, Deputy Director-General Zheng Wenkai pointed out that, witnessed by the leaders of the two countries, we signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the establishment of "Poverty Reduction Cooperation Center" in Mozambique yesterday, which was a major event in cooperation between China and Mozambique in poverty reduction. The first lady’s visit marked a constructive start in the further cooperation between the two countries. It reflects that the Mozambique Government attaches great importance to the cooperation between China and Mozambique in poverty reduction. We look forward to see the Poverty Reduction Cooperation Center act as a platform through our joint efforts to strengthen the friendship between the people of the two countries.

Mrs. Guebuza said that poverty eradication is a major challenge faced by Mozambique. Over the past decades, China has made universally recognized achievements in poverty reduction and gained practical experience in large-scale poverty reduction. She puts her hope that the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the area of poverty reduction can help Mozambique to cope with the challenges and lift more Mozambique people out of poverty. Finally, she expressed that the Mozambican government and Mrs. Guebuza herself fully support the construction and development of the "Poverty Reduction Cooperation Center".

After the meeting, the delegation headed by Mrs. Guebuza visited the Exhibition Hall of IPRCC and took picture with the leaders of the Chinese participants.
