LGOP Deputy Director Led a Delegation to South Africa

From September 20 to 26, at the invitation of the President of African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE), Mr. Wang Guoliang, Deputy Director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development (LGOP) led a delegation to South Africa to attend the 3rd AAAE International Conference and paid the relevant visits, which was accompanied by Mr. Huang Chengwei, Deputy Director-General of IPRCC, and Mr. Liu Wenkui, Deputy Secretary-General of China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA).

On September 22, LGOP Deputy Director Wang Guoliang introduced the effect, policy and practice of China’s development-oriented poverty alleviation in the 6th plenary session in accordance with the conference agenda. Wang introduced the major policy and experience concerning China’s agricultural and rural development and poverty reduction and expected their future development; IPRCC Director-General Huang Chengwei briefed on China’s practice and experience in managing international development assistance, and the progress and prospect of advancing the China-Africa cooperation and exchanges in the fields of poverty reduction and development; Deputy Secretary-General Liu Wenkui presented how CFPA got involved in rural development and poverty alleviation as a non-governmental organization. The speeches of the Chinese delegation received positive response from over 200 participants, who exchanged views with the former on the relevant issues.

During its visit to South Africa, the delegation also held talks with the South Africa Office of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) to obtain an overall knowledge of GTZ’s activities in South Africa, and made a field trip to Mpumalanga, a project area of GTZ. In addition, it discussed with the personnel concerned of GTZ, the European Union, Ministry of Finance in South Africa, etc. about the ongoing and potential cooperation projects and reached consensus in many respects.
