Seminar on Disaster Risk Management and Poverty Reduction for Asian Countries Successfully Closed in Chengdu

September 28, 2010---The Seminar on Disaster Risk Management and Poverty Reduction for Asian Countries hosted by IPRCC and organized by Sichuan Bureau of Poverty Alleviation and Immigration Affairs and UNDP China was successfully closed in Chengdu on September 28, 2010. IPRCC Chief Technical Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed presided over the closing ceremony. IPRCC Deputy Director-General He Xiaojun and trainee representatives delivered summary reports.

The seminar has provided a platform for Asian countries to carry out exchanges on poverty reduction, and has further deepened their cooperation on disaster management and poverty alleviation. At the closing ceremony, the trainees spoke highly of the seminar, and expressed their willingness to put the successful experience they learnt into practice. They hope IPRCC could organize more similar training activities in the future so as to promote the capacity building and development of other developing countries in disaster management and poverty reduction.

During the seminar, trainee representatives from various countries were also delivering speeches based on their country conditions. Later on, a field trip to disaster-hit areas such as Yingxiu and Beichuan was scheduled in order to learn more about the work progress and the mode of the post-disaster reconstruction in the local area.
