"Pilot Village Action Planning Workshop on Sino-Germany Technological Cooperation Project for Post-Disaster Economic Reconstruction" Convened in Chengdu

September 12-13, 2010---In order to effectively and orderly promote the pilot work on Sino-Germany technological cooperation project for post-disaster economic reconstruction, LGOP Post-disaster Reconstruction Office and GTZ jointly convened "Pilot Village Action Planning Workshop on Sino-Germany Technological Cooperation Project for Post-Disaster Economic Reconstruction" in Chengdu of Sichuan Province. More than 20 experts and scholars of LGOP Post-disaster Reconstruction Office, GTZ, Sichuan Bureau of Poverty Alleviation and Immigration Affairs and Sichuan Agricultural University attended the meeting.

The workshop was co-chaired by Mr. Huang Chengwei, Deputy Director-General of IPRCC and LGOP Post-disaster Reconstruction Office, and GTZ Project Manager Thomas Bonschab.

"Sino-Germany Technological Cooperation Project For Post-Disaster Economic Reconstruction" aims at further strengthening the long-term economic development capacity of earthquake-stricken rural areas, helping the villages to find the optimal development pattern and approach, and promoting the exploration of the mechanism combining disaster prevention and mitigation with poverty alleviation and development. With the joint efforts of both parties and the assistance from the cooperation units including the concerned poverty alleviation departments in Sichuan and Sichuan Agricultural University, preliminary results have been achieved in the project villages' baseline research and pro-poor development planning. The project findings are expected to provide advice and guidance for the reconstruction of the disaster-hit impoverished villages in post-restoration period.

Representatives of all the participants exchanged in-depth view on the background report and development planning on pilot villages made by Expert Group of Sichuan Agricultural University, and discussed how to combine the carbon sink trade with poverty alleviation and development. The seminar accomplished all the expected goals.
