March 30, 2010---Director General of IPRCC Wu Zhong was interviewed by Africa Magazine on China-Africa cooperation on poverty reduction jointly launched by IRPCC and enterprises.
Wu summarized the reasons and advantages of conducting such cooperation as follows: first, China-Africa poverty reduction cooperation serves the interest of China; second, China’s successful experience in development-oriented poverty alleviation is suitable for its popularization in African countries; third, most of the collaborative enterprises selected by IPRCC have already established a sound development mechanism in a local basis; Fourth, IPRCC has facilitated a sound basis for sharing advantages in China-Africa poverty reduction cooperation.
Director Wu also briefly introduced the background of the establishment of IPRCC as well as its major functions and activities. As a world’s international platform specialized in poverty reduction research, training, exchanges and cooperation, IPRCC has set up its own professional research team which has completed a series of comparative studies on Chinese poverty reduction policies and experiences, and theories and practices of international poverty reduction and development; in terms of training, IPRCC has held dozens of poverty reduction training seminars for 515 middle- and high-level officials from 83 countries. With regarding to international exchanges, IPRCC has established partnerships with international organizations, development institutions and developing countries; Referring to cooperation, IPRCC has conducted bilateral cooperation with African, Asian and South Africa countries.
While talking about the specific ideas for conducting China-Africa cooperation. Wu suggested that, first, combining the business advantages of IPRCC and enterprises and making a joint effort to conduct the poverty reduction cooperation; second, by drawing upon the mode of Confucius Institute, establishing poverty reduction cooperation centers, taking China’s poverty alleviation experience as the core contents and creating a platform for China-Africa cooperation and; third, strengthening the cooperation with international organizations, and jointly contribute to the undertaking of poverty reduction and social development in African countries.
