29 August, 2014 --- The closing ceremony of the Poverty Reduction Workshop for Zanzibari Officials in 2014, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and organized by IPRCC, was held at the Beijing Fraternal Cooperation International Hotel. The 20-day workshop attracted twenty delegates from the poverty reduction and development-related government departments of Zanzibar. The trainee representative, Mr. SALUM MAULID SALUM, Secretary General of the Zanzibari President’s Office, and IPRCC Deputy Director General He Xiaojun made remarks respectively at the event.

Themed on “Poverty Reduction”, this 20-day seminar is designed to introduce the achievements and experience of China’s development-oriented poverty reduction policy to Zanzibari officials working in the area of poverty reduction and development, promote the knowledge sharing between the China and Zanzibari in terms of policy reduction policy and poverty eradication cause, and advance mutual poverty reduction and development. The seminar consists of three parts: thematic lectures, case studies and field trips. The relevant Chinese experts and scholars were invited to speak on a range of topics including China’s economic and social development, China’s rural poverty reduction and development strategy and experience, the serial policies for development-oriented rural poverty reduction in China, education, health and social security policies and practices for rural China, poverty reduction policies and practices for urban China, use and management of fund for rural poverty reduction and development in China, and a comparative analysis of development and poverty reduction between China and Africa. In the session of case studies, Mr. Wu Tan, Deputy Head of the Poverty Alleviation and Development Office of Guizhou Province briefed the participants on Guizhou’s experience in the poverty reduction implementation mechanism, and management mode. Two field trips were made to Beijing and Guizhou Province. In Beijing, the delegates went to Changping National Agricultural Science Park to visit the representative agricultural science enterprises, and inspected agricultural industrialization projects in the Seedling Area and Gardening Area. In Guizhou Province, the participants visited Guiyang City: Fine Fruit (Kiwi) Planting Base in Pingtan Village, Gubao Township of Xiuwen County, Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park in Penglai Village, Niuchang Township of Baiyun District; Zunyi City: Baishashuixiang Ecological Relocation Project of Songyan Village, Yuqing County, Tianjiagou Group of Fenghuang Village, Xinglong Town, Meitan County and Hetaoba Village of Meijiang Town, Meitan County; Tongren City: Gaojiawan Modern Agricultural Park of Dejiang County, People’s Hospital of Dejiang County, Liangjia Village Clinic of Longquan Township, Changbao Township Clinic, Tea Industry Modern Agricultural Park of Zhangjia Village, Sinan County, Sinan County Vocational Middle School, Tangtou Elementary School of Sinan County; Qinnan City: Apple Planting Project of Guangshun Town, Changshun County; Anshun City: Great King Grape Industrial Base of Shuitang Town, Ziyun County, and Low and Hot River Valley Modern Efficient Agricultural Park of Huohua Township.

This event facilitated the policy sharing and experience exchanging between China and Zanzibar in the field of poverty reduction and development and analyzed their common problems and challenges in the process of further deepening their poverty reduction cause.
