2013 Seminar for Officials on Development-oriented Poverty Reduction Policies and Practices in Portuguese-speaking Countries Opened in Beijing

11 October, 2013 --- The 2013 Seminar for Officials on Development-oriented Poverty Reduction Policies and Practices in Portuguese-speaking Countries sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and organized by IPRCC had its opening ceremony at Beijing Fraternal Cooperation International Hotel. The ceremony was chaired by IPRCC Assistant Director General Wang Shu. Deputy Director Liu Shuwen of the LGOP Department of International Cooperation and Social Mobilization and trainee representative Mr. Francelino/Da Cunha from Guinea-Bissau attended and addressed the ceremony.

Themed on “Development-oriented Poverty Reduction Policies and Practices”, the 21-day seminar begins on October 11 and concludes on October 31. It consists of three parts: thematic lectures, country-specific presentations and field trip. Thirteen lectures will be organized, covering a range of topics including China’s basic national conditions, the strategy and experience of development-oriented poverty reduction in rural China, the policies and practices of rural development in China, the raising and management of rural poverty reduction funds, the serial policies of development-oriented poverty reduction in rural China, and the policies and practices of development-oriented rural poverty reduction in different provinces. Q&A and free discussions will be arranged for each lecture. For the country-specific presentations, the representatives of various participating countries will be invited to introduce the progress of and experience in their own poverty reduction efforts. Also, the trainees will go on a field trip to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to learn about the effects and specific execution of various special poverty reduction polices in local rural areas.

A total of 18 representatives from the government bodies on poverty reduction and development of Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, East Timor, Sao Tome and Principe participated in the seminar.
