Director General Wu Zhong interviewed by Cote d'Ivoire TV-1

January 14-17, 2010---At the invitation of Mr. Raymond Y. SIBAILLY, Counselor of the President’s Office in charge of investment and African Integration, Director General of IPRCC, Mr. Wu Zhong headed a mission to Cote d’Ivoire. Professor Li Xiaoyun, Dean of College of Humanities and Development, China Agricultural University, and Wang Dajun, Deputy Chief of Cooperation Division, IPRCC, went along with Mr. Wu Zhong.

The delegation held talks with officials of Cote d’Ivoire government involving in social development in the Office of President. Director General Wu Zhong introduced the institutional components of China’s poverty reduction departments, the process and achievements of development-oriented poverty reduction, and the role of government and society in this effort. Permanent Secretary of Poverty Reduction and Development, Ministry of Development and Planning of Cote d’Ivoire introduced the institutional components of their poverty reduction departments, poverty situation and the countermeasures of anti-poverty. The two sides discussed the potential cooperation field and approach in the future. Representatives from UN in Cote d’Ivoire, IMF and World Bank also attended the meeting. After the meeting, Wu was interviewed by Cote d’Ivoire TV-1.

Accompanied by Mr. Raymond Y. SIBAILLY, the delegation investigated the upland rice planting site in TAKI SALEKRO, the cassava planting and processing site in BOMIZAMBO, and the onion planting site initiated by local women organization in BOUAFLE. The delegation also paid a visit to Governors of the provinces where the programs are located. During the investigation, the delegation was briefed on the efforts of the Cote d’Ivoire government in poverty reduction, and the difficulties faced by the poverty reduction programs in terms of production and processing.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the future, continue to focus on poverty-reduction capacity building, and share experiences gained in poverty reduction. IPRCC will offer two scholarship opportunities to Cote d’Ivoire, subsidizing students of Cote d’Ivoire to study for poverty reduction and development master degree in China. In return, Cote d’Ivoire will provide information relating to its poverty situation and national poverty reduction strategy to IPRCC for country study in poverty reduction. The two sides also promised to meet again in China in the near future to further promote the cooperation in poverty reduction.
