12 August, 2014 --- The opening ceremony of the Poverty Reduction Workshop for Zanzibari Officials in 2014, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and organized by IPRCC, was held at the Beijing Fraternal Cooperation International Hotel. The ceremony was chaired by IPRCC’s chief of training Zhang Huidong. Mr. Wang Shu, Assistant Director General of IPRCC, attended and addressed the ceremony. Mr. SALUM MAULID SALUM, Secretary General of the Zanzibari President’s Office, delivered a speech on behalf of the trainees.

Themed on poverty reduction, the 20-day workshop will be attended by twenty delegates from the poverty reduction and development-related government departments of Zanzibar. The workshop is divided into two parts: themed lectures and a field trip. The relevant Chinese experts and scholars will be invited to speak on a range of topics including China’s economic and social development, China’s rural poverty reduction and development strategy and experience, the serial policies for development-oriented rural poverty reduction in China, education, health and social security policies and practices for rural China, and a comparative analysis of development and poverty reduction between China and Africa. A Q&A and discussion session will be arranged for each lecture. Moreover, the trainees will go on a field trip to Guizhou Province to learn about the implementation and results of special poverty reduction and development policies in local rural areas.
