International Poverty Reduction Capacity Building Training Course for IPRCC Opened in London

29 July, 2013 --- The International Poverty Reduction Capacity Building Training Course for IPRCC opened in London, U.K. Hosted by IPRCC, the training is organized by UK-China Training Ltd., with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE). A total of 19 officials in charge of international poverty reduction training work from IPRCC, CICETE and the poverty alleviation offices of seven Chinese provinces took part in the training.

Ms. Wang Xiaoping, Director and General Manager of UK-China Training Ltd., attended and addressed the welcoming banquet. Assistant Director General of IPRCC Mr. Wang Shu delivered a speech on behalf of the sponsor and all the trainees. 

This 21-day training is aimed at promoting knowledge sharing and experience exchanging between China and U.K. in the field of rural development and poverty reduction, facilitating the study by Chinese poverty reduction agencies on the latest results of international poverty reduction theory research and policy analysis and on the British policies and experience in rural poverty reduction and development, and improving the capacity of domestic poverty reduction bodies in carrying out international poverty reduction training.

The training consists of two parts: themed lectures and field trips. The lectures will be given by scholars from the related agencies and scientific research institutes, including Cambridge University, the government of Nottinghamshire, British Recruitment Commission, International Agri-Technology Centre Ltd (IATC), and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). The themes range from the British socioeconomic development to the social security and relief system for rural Britain, the British rural employment policy and management system, the British agricultural production and operational mode, the construction and operation of agro-product market system, the British rural land distribution, usage and management mode, the educational and health development policies and modes for rural Britain, the extension system and operational mode for agricultural technology in the U.K., the British rural environmental protection policies and practice, the procedures for international poverty reduction and volunteer dispatch of the U.K., and international development assistance. In addition, the trainees will go on a field trip to Scotland to learn about education and social security in local poverty-stricken areas. They will also visit the Islington Community Service of London to investigate the British community management system and relief for poor community residents; visit the rural community assistance group in Scotland to learn about the British rural education, health, employment and housing policies and practice; visit the British Charity Commission to learn about charity donation programs in Wales; and visit the British Community Hospital Association to learn about the British community health service system, the special services for poverty-stricken residents, the construction of British community health service network and the management of community resident health affairs.

This training will deepen the knowledge sharing and experience exchanging between the two countries in the area of poverty reduction, provide a rare learning opportunity for officials from poverty reduction agencies at different levels, and push forward the capacity building efforts of poverty reduction forces.
