28-31 July, 2014 --- A four-person delegation headed by IPRCC Deputy Director General He Xiaojun paid a 4-day visit to Shicheng County of Jiangxi Province for inspecting the progress of children’s poverty reduction and development pilot. The delegation investigated Jiuzhai Team of Zhukeng Township, Furong Community, Liangxi Village, migrant resettlement area in Lubeiduan, Xinhe Village of Mulan Township, Jinye New Immigrant Village in Gaotian Town, visited local poor villagers for learning the poverty situation and targeted poverty alleviation work, with focus on children’s poverty and plan of children’s poverty alleviation work in Furong Community of Zhukeng Township.

On the afternoon of August 30, the Symposium on Children’s Poverty Reduction and Development Pilot was held in Shicheng County. The delegation listened to the report on the progress of the preparatory work for children’s poverty reduction and comprehensive development pilot program under United Nations Children’s Fund Program, and discussed with relevant departments of Shicheng County on the details and next step of the pilot program. The group members also listened to the report on poverty reduction work of Shicheng County. Deputy Director General He Xiaojun said the preparations for the program is proactive and easy to operate, and expected the relevant departments of Shicheng County to work together to innovate, take full account of poor children as a special group in the course of poverty alleviation and development, sum up practical experience, and make pilot work play a role in improving the poverty reduction policy system. She also asked relevant county authorities to improve the pilot program following the advice given in the symposium. Staff from Jiangxi Provincial Poverty Alleviation and Development Office, Ganzhou Municipal Poverty Alleviation and Development Office, Shicheng County Party Committee and Government, Shicheng County Poverty Alleviation and Development Office, Shicheng County Women’s Federation and Education Bureau as well as pilot townships attended the event.
